Austin, SXSW, Sixth Street lots of bars, great fun to do some bar hopping, Brew Exchange on West 6th Street has lots of different beers and goes with an exchange theme for some of the rare beers. The regular beers are price fixed, but the prices for the other beers go up and down according to demand. On Dirty 6th (the east part of Sixth street) is where all the tourists and youngsters hang out and you can do great bar hopping. Have some chicken wings with beer at Plucker’s Wing Bar. Go see a rodeo (I recommend having a BBQ dinner there), Hamilton Pool, go to the Oasis at Lake Travis and have a nachos bowl. Have some Round Rock Donuts in Round Rock, just north of Austin. Have some breakfast taco’s with eggs and bacon or any other filling for your taste.
Houston has a great restaurant scene, and plenty of choice for different budgets. It is fun to rent a bike and ride around the Heights with it’s lovely houses and along the Buffalo Bayou. Fitzgerald’s in the Heights has often great live music. Have a drink just across the road as well at Little Woodrow’s. Hughes’ Hangar is a fun place to hang out as well, revolving around the famous Howard Hughes and showing clips from Aviator in the background.
San Antonio, River Walk, a man made canal with lots of good restaurants, Casa Rio, Zuni, and fun bars (Durty Nelly’s has a pianist playing funny Irish songs). Go to MisiĆ³n San Antonio de Valero better known now as the Alamo (you gotta remember…). During the Texas revolution against Mexican troops, the Alamo was the stage for the battle which led to the independence of Texas, and is nowadays seen as the symbol for the heroic struggle against overwhelming odds.
